MY TERRIBLE IDEA
Hi. Thanks for responding to my post on Threads. Let me explain a little about what I’m exploring.
I’m a Deep Process Psychotherapist. This is an approach to therapy that combines Jungian shadow work and parts work similar to Internal Family Systems. I’m writing a book called “The Shadow at Work” where I explore how our shadow parts (the parts of ourselves that we learned to hide, repress, deny) show up in the workplace and basically make managers horrible to everybody and the workplace utterly toxic for many people.
I’ve started posting regular reels on Instagram and have started to get some good traction.
However, here’s the thing.
I’m not that funny.
And not all my content should be funny cause this is some serious shit.
But I’d like some of my content to be funny and lighter.
And I’ve had an idea, and perhaps you're the one who can help me turn it into reality. Or tell me why it’s an utterly crap idea that I should drop and not spend a single cent on because it’s demented.
Here’s my idea.
I’d like to create a series of reels which are either a. fake podcast format, or b. fake therapy room format where I’m speaking to real historical figures or fictional characters. The production will involve me filming my side of the interview/ conversation and using AI to create the other person.
For the Shadow at Work material, I could be having conversations with people like Napoleon, Churchill, Henry Ford, Steve Jobs etc. I had thought fictional characters would be great as well - how great would it be to have Darth Vader in a therapy session talking about his relationship with his son, or Luke talking about his relationship with his father? Unfortunately, the AI video models are blocked from creating those kinds of copyrighted characters. But I think there’s still scope for a lot of characters we could use. They could be characters from children’s stories - Hansel and Gretel, Humpty Dumpty. Pretty much anybody we want. I did a test with Jung - the script’s not that great (like I said - I’m not that funny!!), but I was just testing whether I could pull off the production. You can see it here.
The support I’m looking for will involve brainstorming character ideas and the “shadow angle” for each character, and writing the scripts in a way that hits home some useful points while also being funny/light/engaging.
I’d like this to be an ongoing partnership where we work on a batch of 5-10 scripts which I then go and produce - perhaps dropping these around 1 per week among other content.
I’d also really welcome any other ideas you might have for making my other content lighter / more entertaining. For example, the kind of therapy I do involves people exploring the “parts of themselves” (don’t go there!) - and I’m thinking that having multiple shots of me on screen at the same time interacting could be a useful device here. But I’m sure that with the right creative partner, we could come up with many more ideas.
My plan is to engage three writers to begin with, develop one idea to see how we work together, and then see how it goes from there.
If this is interesting to you, and you think you’d be a good fit for the project, please drop me an email at kenny@deepprocesstherapy.com with your thoughts on the project, why you’re a good fit, and an estimate of what working on this would cost. Working on the first trial script would be paid, so please let me know how you’d approach charging for that. My preference for charging would be on a fixed “per reel” basis - and I’m happy to settle the fee for the trial reel and see how it goes - and then adjust once we both know what working together looks like for future reels. But I’m open to your suggestions based on your experience.
Thanks for engaging with this!
Kenny
